MBarou Diodio CAMARA BA
Native of the Gorée island in Senegal, M'Barou "Jojo" Camara Ba has been exhibiting her art since 1989. Her paintings picture the african continent and its community through its different aspects (pain, joy, poverty, wealth). Since the recognition of Kwanzaa holiday by African-America, Jojo found a new wind of inspiration and the theme of Kwanzaa and Africa are always felt in one form or another. Through her artwork, Jojo pictures some of the most beautiful facets of Africa and its history, such as landscapes and celebrations, but also some of least pleasant such as slavery, war and starvation.
MBarou has brought her art out of the canvas by making it visible to a broader audience through interior decoration, potery, clothing. She has illustated and contributed to many of the outfits of the Malaw clothing line and has some similar works available on the website.
MBarou also supports a charity named after her past sister the "Antoinette Foundation" which fights against child labour and more specifically the teenage house maids. Her foundations has allowed young girls to stay in school to get a proper education. Please visit our donation page in you would like to donate to the Antoinette Foundation.
